If you are looking at getting into internet sales or any others sales for that matter, be it direct marketing, party plan, etc make sure you have a niche.
When my business started out my main focus was providing good quality commercially made jewellery at prices the every day person could afford.
All us girls love jewellery and it is a luxury item but we shouldn't have to pay huge mark ups for the privilege.
I specifically steared away from costume jewellery (although this is a huge market with an excellent turnover) and chose to carry only sterling silver and genuine gold pieces.
This was a personal decision more so than a business one mainly because of the issues I have with base metals and the exorbitant cost of replicating trendy designs in precious metals.
I felt there had to be an outlet that could provide excellent design with quality and after searching found there was a niche for this sort of business and went for it.
After 18 months my business has evolved and I still carry a core range of commercially made product but my focus is shifting and are now incorporating artisan jewellery and handmade pieces that I source and are starting to produce myself.
Having a point of difference can set you above the rest but you need to be sure that you have done your research and chosen a suitable niche for your market.
So yes, this is a bit of a NO-BRAINER but definitely one worth mentioning.
